On behalf of the Family Violence Stakeholders Committee (FVSC) we would like to thank you for hosting the “Breakfast for the Boys” on June 6, 2008. Your partnership with our committee in bringing out Dr. Peter Jaffee to speak on a topic that impacts us all is commended. Unfortunately, the problems associated with family violence and bullying continue to be at the forefront of today’s issues and it is only with the continued community efforts that we can hope to make a change in future generations.

As part of the ongoing work of FVSC, we will be hosting our 4th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Nov. 5, 2008, in memory of victims who have lost their lives to family violence. Another aspect of the Vigil is to remind people that family violence and bullying is a community issue and that everyone has a responsibility to do what they can to decrease the incidence of these two issues.

This year, students in grades six through eight, at both Percy Baxter and St. Joseph schools, have agreed to join us by hosting a “Walk for Respect” daytime walk to demonstrate that youth are taking a stand against family violence and bullying.

We have enclosed a poster on the Candlelight Vigil and would ask that you consider joining us in the evening event and encourage friends and family to take some time from their busy schedules to take part in this event.

Sincerely,

Jan Chant,
Chair, Family Violence Stakeholders Committee
